This in turn leads to Burning Man 2007's KFC
theme camp, where seven
Col. Sanders give away fried chicken for eight
days. The commercial
food promotion industry will catch on quickly
and Burning Man 2008
will certainly be the world's largest free,
international cuisine
buffet.
-
No signage of course, but the clown with the
hamburgers and the king
with the onion rings will be hard to miss. Then
there's the propane
roasted pepperoni lovers', the Playa McNuggets,
and the 100' Big Boy
metal sculpture. Wow. There's Emeril in a dust
mask! Get a picture!
The food promoters aren't stupid. They realize
that to gain
acceptance into freak culture (an untapped
market), they must play by
the rules. So not only will you get free food
gifts, but you can
PARTICIPATE by running an order booth (walk
through), or learn to
deep-fry! Ah, the smell of grease over playa in
the morning.

This thread is actually a very important thread.
Maybe it will allow some to re-evaluate what BM
is and why we actually go to BRC in the first
place. Sometimes the most important reasons
things are created and why we do them gets lost
in all the BS......

What's up with cellular phones at BRC?
-
This is a horrible idea! I can't believe the
board of directors of BM are embarking upon this
big money making venture at BM!!!
-
Not only will the outside world now be a part of
the BM experience via cell phones  , but
free enterprise is now expanding in the once
sacred community that I thought previously was
meant to example a merchandising FREE zone.
-
They are proposing to sell / lease the use of
cell phones at the BM event and if people lose
their equipment they will be charged a hefty
loss fee $1500 for cell phone, + $140 for
battery + more added on costs!! :x
-
This whole event sounds like it's getty way too
commercialized for my taste!!!
I hope there will be an open forum of protest on
e-playa
As of this point, I am not going to BM this
year
-
Read the very very fine print at the bottom of
the pages.....
good work Scotto
-
Nothing seems to get people riled up like modern
amenities on the playa!
-
Very nicely done!
-
I love all the detail that went into the BR
Cellular website. Very
thorough, artwork, contracts, employment and
all.

cell phones what a great idea!!!!..But after
paying for them online, should I have them sent
to my home or should I pick them up at will
call?????
-
I am so so confused....If they are sent to my
home, I might drive off and leave them....but on
the other hand, if I get to the playa after
midnight on Sunday...and the will call is
closed, well does that mean I have wait outside
the main entrance until 6am to pick them up???
or should I plan on paying for an "out and
in"......please help....
-
Heh, you got me a little minute of fool - It's a
good joke
-
That was great!! I filled in the info just for
the hell of it. Great April fools joke.
-
This had everything a brilliant April Fool's
prank should have!
You had me totally going, freaking at the
violation of it all!
Happy April Fool's!
See you at home!
-
Dude. My thoughts were, "No way! This has to be
a joke!" and then I checked the date.
-
Some retard does this every year. What was it
last time? ...MTV on the Playa?
(Gotta admit, they do a fun job on the site.)
-
Damn...good one. Totally had me for a sec! Then
I'm like " 420 minute phone cards....wait a minute..." lol
-
Scott Platsky, one of the things that has
inspired me about BM is the idea of a gifting
economy. I don't know if it's practical but at
least for one week, can't it be? For sanity, in
this hyper-commerce-driven economy?
-
Although, many people do not even cover up the
corporate logos on their truck rentals. Maybe my
slight utopian dream can't even live for a week? What do you think?
-
And yes, the BRCellular has made quite the
rounds. It is Burner global news now. Good job!
-
Boy did I fall for that! That is just classic.
Nice attention to detail- if I had bothered to read the disclaimer on
the bottom it would have made life easier.
-
I was reading about the phones and rate plans
and thinking - what a rip, who would be stupid
enough to buy this...............DUH!
-
Thanks for the April Fool’s (brcellular) you got
me and everyone else on the alberta-list.
-
What a great idea! Why have no one
thought of
this before!
-
Thank you for letting us know.
BTW Have a great April Fools day!
-
Oh man, that was great!
Thanks!
-
BRCellular .........absolutely perfect!!!!!!!!
-
Scotto, You rock!!!!!!!!!!!!! Funny stuff man!!
-
Did you see how fast he got that out. Right at
midnight. That just takes way to much planning for me.
-
Well done - April 1 and everyone wants a BRC
Cell Phone system - Ah what a life when so many
are fooled. I thought last years was great, this
was better. Happy april fools day.
-
Great job on the website...Changed my post to
play along but really there has been talk in AEZ
email list that there really is going to be Cell
service in BRC and weeks ago somebody on another
list said it was secret but yes they were doing
work up in Gerlach...who knows?
-
good job happy fools day
-
I look forward to April Fools Day to see what
kind of tricks people pull off but your site
stands out as one of the best April Fool's trick
sites or pranks I've ever seen. That is one
impressive piece of work....sheesh I work in
telecom and that site had me going for a bit.
One can tell you put some time into it and I
wanted to say something...work like that should
not go unrecognized.
-
Great job!! Great Laugh!!.Let me know when your
IPO is coming up. I'll buy 1000 shares using BM
BUCKS!
-
LOL-- you are so very bad.
-
I have a vision of this sweeping through the
country as we speak. I've been quietly telling
those posting dismay at the news that they might
think of the possibility of timing, so as not to
ruin the fun. However, seeing this coming from
the east coast gave me added pleasure. This
country will be buzzing for a few hours.
-
Most excellent Scotto!
-
No more having to walk around and actually talk
to people. Can I borrow your recharger?.
-
Actually, I hear playa info will have a cell
phone recharger station set up. Now everyone can
walk around with a communication device and not
just those elitist rangers.
-
I tried to get people to talk with signal
mirrors but it did not work so well at night
-
That's
pretty sweet. Did you go over the top and
submit it to Google to see about ranking?
Are you going to track hits and see if
anyone out in the "real" world gets it? Nice
job. Almost a shame it's fake.
-
Hey, thanks for posting this!!!! This is such a
bold new direction for decommodification and
gift culture!
-
Can these kiosks display pornographic
advertisements? I want to really cash in on this
offer and I feel that hardcore smut would be the
best marketing tool. Possibly throw some donkey
porn in to keep the consumers' attention.
-
And do your phones have the option to use them
as remote detonators? It would be totally rad to
set off my fuel air bomb art project with a hip
BRC phone! I'm thinking one of your kiosks would
be a great pedestal for the bomb. You have
insurance don't you?
-
Lastly, I was planning to volunteer as a greeter
and earth guardian but now I just wanna work for
BRCellular as a customer service rep. There
aren't too many places to spend my phat paycheck
at BRC and I'm not trying to drink 70 gallons of
coffee. So I'd like to be paid in blowjobs
instead, m'kay?

I think the big deal was the kiosks. The
branding of BRC and BMOrg to create a
'commodity'. Not necessarily the use of cell
phones on the playa. But since it was an April
Fool's joke, it really isn't a big deal. So let
us all go forth and worry on this no more!
